BGT 2027 Mumbai Wankhede: Post-Match Walk Routes & Last Trains

If you're watching the BGT 2027 Mumbai Test at Wankhede and you need to get back to your suburban hotel after stumps, the practical answer is short: walk to either Marine Lines or Churchgate station depending on your gate. The Western Line locals run till 1:30am from Churchgate; Central Line connections via CSMT run till 12:45am. Cabs are easier from C-stand exits than from D-stand. Auto-rickshaws don't enter the Wankhede area โ you'll need to walk to D Road or Marine Drive to find one.
This guide is built for the Test fan who's done a 9:30am-to-5:30pm Day 1 or Day 2 and now needs to handle Mumbai's peak-evening rush plus the post-stumps stadium spillover. Wankhede has six gates labelled by stand (North Stand, Sachin Tendulkar Stand, Vijay Merchant Stand, Sunil Gavaskar Stand, MCA Pavilion, Garware). Each gate exits to a different street and feeds into a different transit option.
Wankhede Gate-By-Gate Exit Map
| Gate | Stand | Exits to | Best transit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate 1 | North Stand | D Road | Walk to Marine Lines (10 min) |
| Gate 2 | Sachin Tendulkar Stand | D Road / E Road | Marine Lines (8 min) |
| Gate 3 | Vijay Merchant Stand | E Road | Churchgate (12 min) |
| Gate 4 | Sunil Gavaskar Stand | F Road | Churchgate (10 min) |
| Gate 5 | MCA Pavilion | Members | Cab via D Road |
| Gate 6 | Garware Pavilion | F Road | Churchgate (12 min) |
Gates 5 and 6 are MCA member exits and have the cleanest post-match flow. General-stand fans on Gates 1-4 deal with the bulk of the crowd.
Walking To Marine Lines Station
If your hotel is in Marine Drive, Charni Road, or Grant Road area, Marine Lines station is your best bet. The 8-12 minute walk passes through D Road and E Road โ well-lit, even at 9:30pm.
| From gate | Walk distance | Walk time | Last Western local |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate 1 (N Stand) | 800m | 10 min | 1:24am to Virar |
| Gate 2 (Sachin) | 700m | 8 min | 1:24am to Virar |
| Gate 3 (Vijay) | 1.1 km | 13 min | 1:24am to Virar |
| Gate 4 (Sunil) | 1.3 km | 15 min | 1:24am to Virar |
Marine Lines platform has steps; no escalator. The last Borivali fast leaves at 1:13am; the slow Virar at 1:24am; check Indian Railways m-Indicator app for live updates on a Test day.
Walking To Churchgate Station
Churchgate is the alternative โ slightly longer walk, more frequent locals, larger waiting area. From Wankhede F Road exits, the walk is 10-15 minutes through Cross Maidan.
| From gate | Walk distance | Walk time | Last train |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate 3 (Vijay) | 900m | 12 min | 1:39am to Virar |
| Gate 4 (Sunil) | 800m | 10 min | 1:39am to Virar |
| Gate 6 (Garware) | 1.0 km | 12 min | 1:39am to Virar |
Churchgate has the advantage of being a terminus โ the train sits at the platform for 8-15 minutes before departure. You don't miss it once you're on the platform.
Cab Pickup Zones
Uber and Ola at Wankhede have specific surge geofences. Pickup attempts inside the F Road / D Road blocks get pinged as "driver cannot reach" โ the geofencing routes them to surge fares of 2-4x.
| Zone | Best for | Surge factor |
|---|---|---|
| Marine Drive (3-4 min walk) | All gates | 1.5-2x |
| NCPA Apollo Bunder | Premium, day-time end | 2-3x |
| Churchgate station forecourt | F-Road exits | 1.8-2.5x |
| Air India building, Nariman Point | C/D-stand fans | 1.5-2x |

Auto-Rickshaw Strategy
Autos are not allowed inside the Marine Drive heritage precinct. The closest auto-rickshaw stand to Wankhede is at Lala Lajpatrai Marg / Tardeo Road junction โ a 12-15 minute walk from any Wankhede gate. Pricing is meter, with a 1.5x surcharge after 12:00am.
For mid-evening (8:00pm-10:00pm) exits, auto-rickshaws cluster at Hutatma Chowk โ 8 minutes' walk from Gate 6.
Day-By-Day Stumps Reality
| Day | Stumps | Realistic gate exit | Last useful transit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | 5:30pm | 6:00-6:15pm | Marine Lines, easy |
| Day 2 | 5:30pm | 6:00-6:15pm | Marine Lines, easy |
| Day 3 | 5:30pm (Saturday) | 6:00-6:30pm crowd-heavy | Churchgate fast |
| Day 4 | 5:30pm | 6:00-6:15pm | Marine Lines, easy |
| Day 5 | Variable, 4-6pm window | Plus 30-45 post-match | Add buffer |
Day 3 is the busiest because Wankhede draws walk-up local crowds on Saturdays. Add 15-20 minutes to every gate exit estimate.
Hotel Cluster To Match Plan
| Hotel area | Best return route | Time post-stumps |
|---|---|---|
| Marine Drive / Nariman Point | Walk back, 10-15 min | Direct |
| Colaba | Cab from Air India building | 12-18 min |
| Bandra | Marine Lines + Western local | 35-45 min |
| Andheri | Churchgate + Western fast local | 50-60 min |
| Powai | Cab via Eastern Express | 60-90 min |
For post-match dinner, Bademiya behind Taj Mahal Hotel runs till 4:00am with kebabs. Cafe Mondegar at Colaba is open till 12:30am. Both are within 12-15 minutes of Wankhede.
Practical Exit Checklist
If stumps caught you by surprise:
- Identify your gate before you sit down on Day 1; don't look at it on Day 5
- Carry small cash for auto-rickshaw fare
- Pre-book a cab if your destination is suburban
- Mumbai locals run on a printed timetable โ check m-Indicator for the latest
- Wallet, phone, ID are the only essentials โ leave heavy bags at the hotel
Wankhede is one of the easiest international Test grounds to leave at night because the city around it is busy until 1am. Plan your gate-walk and your transit pickup before the cricket ends, and you'll be home before midnight every Test day.
