ICC WCL2 2026 Namibia vs UAE May Window Tilburg Recap

Namibia and the UAE met at Tilburg in the May 2026 window of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, the third time the two have crossed paths in this cycle. The match carried real qualification weight โ the top three from the seven-team league progress directly to the ODI World Cup 2027 Qualifier, and both sides are inside that picture.
Match Summary
Namibia won the toss and chose to bat. They posted 271/7 in 50 overs, with captain Gerhard Erasmus making 89 and Jan Frylinck adding 47 down the order. UAE chased it down to 243 all out in 49.1 overs. Namibia won by 28 runs. Bernard Scholtz took 4/41 in his 10 overs and was the pick of the bowlers across both sides.
Namibia Innings
Namibia's phase data on a Tilburg surface that played true through the day:
- Powerplay (overs 1-10): 55/1. A measured opening from Stephan Baard and Michael van Lingen.
- Middle (overs 11-40): 138/4. Erasmus anchored and built into the 89 that defined the innings.
- Death (overs 41-50): 78/2. Jan Frylinck's 47 off 38 was the death innings, and the late assault took Namibia past 270.
Erasmus's 89 was the captain's knock the team has come to rely on in the WCL2 cycle. He has now scored four 50+ scores in his last seven WCL2 innings and remains Namibia's clearest match-defining batter.
UAE Chase
UAE came out aggressive. They were 64/1 at the end of the powerplay and 142/3 at the end of the 25th. Asif Khan made 58 at the top and Vriitya Aravind 42 at no.3. The match turned in the 32nd over when Scholtz removed Aravind and Khan in consecutive overs, dropping UAE from 168/3 to 174/5 and shifting the required rate above 7.
The chase never really recovered. Muhammad Waseem's 36 off 28 in the 40s was a counter-attack rather than a chase, and UAE were 28 runs short with three balls left when their last wicket fell.
Standout Performers
Bernard Scholtz's 4/41 was the bowling card of the match. He bowled all 10 overs in two spells โ the first across overs 11-20 for 1/15, the second across overs 31-40 for 3/26 โ and broke the back of the UAE chase in the middle phase.
For UAE, Asif Khan's 58 remained the only innings of substance from a top order that has been the team's strongest unit this cycle.
Qualification Standings After This Window
The top-three race is now down to four sides in real terms โ Nepal, Scotland, Namibia, and UAE โ with PNG and Oman on the outside and USA holding on. Namibia's win takes them above UAE on net run rate and keeps them inside the top three on points.
The May window still has matches to play at both venues, and the cycle has at least two more windows beyond that. The race for the top three is going to be decided in the final two windows of the cycle, when each side has limited fixtures left and every point matters.
