The Prairie View Cricket Stadium near Houston has slowly built itself as USA Cricket's primary home venue, and the final T20I of the May 2026 series against Canada was a worthwhile advert. USA chased 178 with five balls to spare. The platform came from openers Steven Taylor and Andries Gous; the finish came from captain Aaron Jones โ€” 41 off 19 โ€” and the win was set up before that by Saurabh Netravalkar's 3 for 22 in the first innings.

Canada's innings: a stop-start 177

Canada opener Aaron Johnson struck two sixes in the second over and looked likely to break the 200 mark with Pargat Singh at the other end. They added 56 inside seven overs before Netravalkar pulled it back with the powerplay last over. Captain Saad Bin Zafar (38 off 28) and Nicholas Kirton (44 off 33) lifted the middle, but the death overs went to USA. Netravalkar bowled the 19th, conceded just six runs and removed Nicholas Kirton with a wide yorker. Canada finished on 177 for 7.

Netravalkar's left-arm spell

Saurabh Netravalkar bowled four overs across two spells: one in the powerplay, one at the death. His four-over return of 3 for 22 was the difference. In the powerplay he bowled length from over the wicket and beat Johnson's outside edge with two consecutive deliveries. In the death set, his cutter at 118 kph took the back-of-a-length wicket of Kirton. Netravalkar's economy on the night was 5.5; the next-best USA bowler was Ali Khan at 9.0.

USA's chase: top order's platform

Steven Taylor and Andries Gous put on 64 inside the first 7 overs. Both fell within four balls โ€” Gous to a slower bouncer from Junaid Siddiqui, Taylor to a top-edged hook off Kaleem Sana. Andrew Tehuteru and Milind Kumar held the middle without acceleration; at the end of the 15th over, USA needed 56 off 30 with five wickets in hand. Jones came in at five.

Aaron Jones' finishing cameo

Jones' 41 off 19 was the innings of a captain who has seen the team through associate-tier fixtures into Full Members' orbit. He hit Kaleem Sana over deep midwicket twice in the 17th, took two boundaries off Siddiqui in the 18th, and finished it with five balls to spare. The pull through square has become his signature shot; he played it five times in this innings.

What this series tells us

USA won the three-match T20I series 2-1 after a Canada win in match two. The result keeps USA in the seeding picture for the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and the qualifiers cycle for 2028. More importantly, this is the first T20I series since the MLC 2026 final in July where Jones, Gous and Netravalkar all played a full match together. With Corey Anderson injured, the team has had to lean more on its core pool, and the depth โ€” Khan, Tehuteru, Milind Kumar โ€” held up. Canada's gap to USA in white-ball cricket has not widened: Johnson's power-hitting and Saad Bin Zafar's captaincy keep them in the same conversation.

What to watch next

USA tour the Caribbean in late June for a one-off ODI against the West Indies โ€” the first major bilateral on a Full Member tour. Netravalkar and Jones are guaranteed picks. Canada hosts Scotland in early July at King City, Toronto, and the team needs to settle a third seamer alongside Sana and Siddiqui.
